2 Adults 6 days
The Oxley Highway is a rural highway in New South Wales.
Starting at Nevertire, just west of Dubbo, it runs through the towns
of Gilgandra, Coonabarabran, Tamworth, and Walcha before finishing on the coast
at Port Macquarie. It was named to commemorate John Oxley, the first European to
explore much of inland New South Wales in 1818.
Join us on this 6 day tour of discovery starting at Narromine. Here we will get to know each other with a Welcome Dinner at the Narromine RSL Club. Following a hearty breakfast, our first stop will be Nevertire; the start of the Oxley Hwy. From here it is onto the Coo- ee Heritage Centre at Gilgandra. The Coo-ee march started in Gilgandra on the 10th October 1915 with 25 men, and finished in Sydney on the 12th November that same year with 253 men. These men then volunteered for “The Great War”.
The afternoon will see us travelling to Coonabarabran, where we will be spending 2 nights. The following morning will see us out at Sliding Springs Observatory for a tour of Australia’s largest telescope. In the evening we will be star gazing with a fantastic night show.
Leaving Coonabarabran, we head for Tamworth, the Country Music Capital of Australia. After setting up camp at Paradise Caravan Park, we will visit the Australian Country Music Hall of Fame. You may also wish to visit the Powerhouse Motorcycle Museum.
Leaving Tamworth we start to head up, in altitude that is, as we climb the Moonbi ranges heading towards the coast. Our next stop will be Mount Seaview Resort, where you relax with a beverage beside the Hastings River. Our final day of travelling will see us at the end of the Oxley Highway at Port Macquarie. After setting up camp and exploring Port Macquarie you will be treated to a delicious Farewell Dinner. The following morning we will part company and head home, having had great week and met some wonderful new friends.
